India's Supreme Court directs Election Commission to put Right to Reject button on all EVMs

India's Supreme Court directs Election Commission to put Right to Reject button on all EVMs
In a historic judgment towards cleaner politics the Supreme Court of India today directed the Election Commission to provide a button on Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs  to allow voters to reject all candidates contesting an election in a constituency, starting with the next set of assembly elections this year. The court has said this option is crucial for the world's largest democracy to survive and will strengthen the process of selection/election of the best available men or women to be chosen for governing the country.

The court decided on a petition filed by the People's Union for Civil Liberties, an NGO, that a button be provided on the Electronic Voting Machine or EVM, giving the voters a "none of the above" choice.
