Bengaluru’s Midnight Marathon, an event eagerly awaited by many is back…in a brand new avatar and with a brand new face. The seventh edition of this very popular Marathon titled “SBI Bengaluru Midnight Marathon 2013” is being held on December 14, 2013 6PM onwards with The Flying Sikh-Shri. Milkha Singh as its Brand Ambassador under the patronage of its organisers, the Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC). This was announced today at a press conference held at the Bengaluru Marriott Hotel, Whitefield amidst media, the RBITC team and the partners and sponsors associated with the Marathon. The theme for this year’s SBI Bengaluru Midnight Marathon 2013, “Bhaag Bengaluru Bhaag,” was also unveiled during the Press Conference.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of runners have been actively participating in Marathons across the country for creating awareness on various social and charitable causes. Bengaluru Midnight Marathon has the distinction of being one of them and is the key fundraising event for RBITC’s various charitable activities. Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor has been successfully conducting the Bengaluru Midnight Marathon since 2007 and has over the years attracted 50,000 plus runners from across the world in celebration of the city, its people and its culture.
Thousands of professional runners, international athletes, supporters, corporate and NGOs are expected to run in the SBI Bengaluru Midnight Marathon 2013 which will be held at KTPO, Whitefield on Saturday, December 14th, 2013.

Announcing Shri. Milkha Singh as the Brand Ambassador of SBI Bengaluru Midnight Marthon 2013,  President of Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor, Rajeeb Roy shared, “It’s an absolute honour to have a legendary athlete like Milkha Singhji as the brand ambassador of SBI BMM 2013.  We are very grateful to him to have agreed to be a part of our noble initiative and take this event to a national and international level.”

Unveiling the theme of “Bhaag Bengaluru Bhaag,” at the press conference, Shri. Milkha Singh said, “I am delighted to be a part of this unique race which has so many wonderful elements – it promotes running, good health, the city of Bangalore and also raises money for the humanitarian projects that Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor runs. I wish them the very best and hope to see a large turnout this year, and every year from hereon."

The President, Rajeeb Roy further added that the funds raised over the last six editions of BMM were used to expand the scope of the Club's activities to fund many more projects in the sphere of health, education, infrastructure, social welfare and rural enlistment with strong focus on Child Development and Women’s Development.

RBITC Past President Mr. Viraf Sutaria said “Conceptualised to celebrate the spirit of Bengaluru and its spirit of innovation, RBITC’s Bengaluru Midnight Marathon has received tremendous recognition since its inception. BMM have seen the number of participants increasing year after year with over 10,000 people participating in the last edition. We believe that BMM will eventually become an embodiment of everything that stands for hope in each of us.”

Chairman, SBI BMM 2013 Mr. Dipankar Khasnabish declared, “BMM embodies the spirit of the city like no other – young, vibrant, competitive yet collaborative. With Milkha Singhji as our Brand Ambassador this year, the excitement is builidng up tremondously, with thousands gearing up to immerse into the unique experience.”

State Bank of India, Bangalore Circle, which is celebrating 30 years of the formation of Bangalore Circle at the Local Head Office (LHO), has come forward to be the Title sponsor of the SBI Bengaluru Midnight Marathon 2013. Speaking on their association, Mr. Ashwini Mehra, Chief General Manager, Bangalore Circle share, “We are proud to be associated with this event and to be in a position to support the various charitable activities of RBITC. SBI, as the largest bank in the country, has always maintained the tradition of keeping in mind the needs of the various sections of the society. We are very impressed by the charitable activities undertaken by the RBITC and have decided to give it our wholehearted support and backing. By supporting one of the biggest and most awaited events of Bangalore, we are only taking this tradition forward.”

Sharing how Target India is gearing up for the Marathon, Navneet Kapoor, President and Managing Director, Target India said, “At Target, we are excited at our continued association with this event and are proud of the fact that our sponsorship helps us give back to our communities. Specifically, part of the sponsorship money will go to Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement for their program called “Top Up”; which helps inculcate a habit of saving for higher education among children and provides them monetary incentives to do so. We are encouraging all our team members to be a part of the Target 10k run and are sponsoring their registrations. We care deeply about the well-being of our teams and the marathon provides a perfect platform to help team members take charge of their physical fitness.”
