Aviraté appoints a new Global CEO and a new India COO

Aviraté, the international high street fashion brand for women, announces two appointments that strengthen the company’s strategy, marketing and operations. Jagdish Chawla has joined Aviraté as the Global CEO with 22 years experience in fashion business and will be responsible for growth in revenue as well as moving the gross margin. Rahul Gupta, a stalwart in retail industry with 14 years of experience in the retail sector has been appointed as the new COO of Aviraté India and will be in charge of driving the top line, store profitability and creating the expansion strategies for Aviraté.
Regarding the new appointments Mr. Jahid Osman (MD, Aviraté India) says, “We believe that Avirate will benefit from Jagdish and Rahul's leadership and their proven track record of success in building global brands. Both of our key appointments have shared a common passion for building brands through innovative strategies and properties which makes them an excellent cultural fit too for Avirate. Additionally, their deep understanding of retail brands with expertise in design, retail marketing strategies, and the power of building a strong brand provides them with the tools we believe are necessary to lead our next exciting phase of growth.”

 Mr. Chawla has had a stint in Indonesia for 7 years where he handled brands such as Rimo and Matahari as Vice President - Private Label Business and General Manager Merchandising – Private Label & Direct Purchase Business respectively. He will play a key role in the end to end product development process from concept to in-store presentation as well as meeting P&L objectives by meeting budgets and achieving significant targets for Aviraté. Mr. Chawla is a strong believer in using technology to improve the functioning of businesses and his out-of-the-box problem solving techniques brings in the edge. He is an environmental activist who also loves to indulge in digital photography and is a maestro at playing the Clarinet.
Mr. Gupta, a graduate from NIFT, joined the retail industry during its formative years. With over 16 years of experience alongside leading retailer giants like Madura Garments, RPG group, Landmark group and Reliance Trends, Mr. Gupta has been instrumental in leading category management, planning and developing new business strategies for companies. His diversified experience in Marketing, Sales, Operation, Product and Category gives him the edge & expertise to streamline the activities of the brand. He will be overseeing key functions such as sales forecasting, merchandising and product development for Aviraté. He’s a great communicator and his thorough experience of customer understanding and strong international fashion brand retail makes him keen to deliver more towards Aviraté’s mission of bringing in international fashion into India. His core competency is conceptualizing and creating road maps while steering brands into strong profitable business propositions. Moreover, his extensive understanding of Indian geographic opportunities is in turn helpful in working towards the expansion strategy for Aviraté. An avid adventure sports and travel enthusiast, Mr. Gupta spends his free time indulging in these passions.
