10 volunteers from the center, backed by a $10,000 (INR 620,825) contribution from Honeywell, are participating in a program to provide experiential learning opportunities through interaction with technologists and engineers. The program is part of Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company’s corporate citizenship initiative, which seeks to address certain needs in the communities it serves.
“Honeywell is committed to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education worldwide through a series of unique programs designed to inspire the next generation of innovators ,” said Simon Hobbs, senior director for HITC. “This program affords students an opportunity to work with some of Honeywell's top technologists and engineers to learn more about potential careers.”
The program is being run in partnership with Sanskriti School, a Haryana government funded school in Gurgaon, to impact class IX students before they choose their subject streams. Students participate in workshops and exhibitions and use science lab kits specifically designed to suit the school’s academic curriculum.
“At Sanskriti, we aim to provide the best education to our students with experiential trainings and hands-on workshops. We welcome such initiatives and are delighted to have Honeywell employees volunteering to enhance the STEM program,” said Surender Mehndiratta, principal of Sanskriti School, Gurgaon. “Their hard work and dedication to the project is visible and I am sure that the batch will benefit from these workshops and contributions.”
HITC, which opened in 2012 in Gurgaon, supports Honeywell’s Performance Materials and Technologies (PMT) strategic business group. The technology center features pilot plants for developing and demonstrating refining and petrochemical process technologies by UOP - a business of PMT that is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, materials to the petroleum refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries. The center also performs other product and application development for PMT, including fluorine and nylon technologies. Honeywell invested $34 million in the 8,830-square-meter (95,000-square-foot) center, which employs 95 technologists.
