World Cancer Day at Manipal Hospitals Bangalore
This world Cancer Day, Manipal Hospitals Bangalore, part of Manipal Health Enterprises, collaborated with Pinkathon and observed World Cancer Day. Manipal Hospitals is committed to create awareness about this serious ailment by placing ‘Cancer Pledge Trees’ within the hospital premises and across various important junctions of the city. Popular Bollywood actor and model-Milind Soman was present to flag off the initiative. A special support group called ‘conquerors club’ for cancer survivors was launched on the occasion.

An ounce of prevention is better than a ton of cure. Working on this line, the ‘Cancer Pledge Tree’ program is initiated to educate and create awareness among people that if detected early, this otherwise fatal disease is curable. People willing to support the cause can stick ribbons representing a particular type of cancer and mark his/her pledge against it.

In its ‘Pledge Against Cancer’ Manipal Hospitals has tied up as a medical partner to Pinkathon run scheduled on February 16, 2014, where proactive initiatives through several forms of running were imparted to people to fight this fatal disease.

It has been found that In India an estimated 2 to 2.5 million suffer from Cancer. To add to this number around 0.7 million new cases are reported every year from which nearly half of them die. It is also known that two-third of the new cancer patients is presented in an incurable stage at the time of diagnosis. Also, reports show that more than 60% of these affected patients are in the prime of their life aged between 35 to 65 years.
