The historic ride had over 400 women from different walks of life enthusiastically participating and expressing their solidarity for women empowerment and gender equality. The fun they were having and the camaraderie amongst them made the ride memorable.
Ms Minnie Mathew said one of the vital prerequisites for women empowerment is easy mobility; bicycle is an apt mode of transport which promotes healthy living and safe environment. Taking to bicycling on a big day like this, is a good beginning. This impressive ride should see more and more women wheeling on the bicycle in the city.
Mr. N.V.S. Reddy, MD, Hyderabad Metro Rail, said our endeavour is to make bicycle ride popular amongst the citizens of Hyderabad and the International Women’s Day is the most opportune day to spread the message amongst women. This pleasant all women ride has made a mark and should motivate several to opt for bicycle as their mode of transport.

Manohar, Chairman, Hyderabad Bicycling Club & Past Chairman, CII, said, this event on a momentous day has proclaimed women empowerment, protection of environment and promotion of healthy living. This all women ride will encourage and popularize bicycle as a mode of transport amongst Hyderabadis.

Hyderabad Bicycling Club which emerged as the world’s largest cycling club on meetup overtaking Denver & Frontrange Cycling Club, USA. HBC has a membership of about 4800 active cyclists and vigorously promoting cycling to contain the problems of vehicular pollution and traffic congestion. HBC is operating two bike stations at Necklace road and Gachibowli and promoting cycling tracks with the support of Hyderabad Metro Rail, GHMC and APIIC. Hyderabad Metro Rail and HBC are planning to set up bike stations at all metro stations for the convenience of commuters to provide last mile connectivity.
