Cairn India Sponsors Rajasthan Women’s Hockey Cup

As a part of its association with Hockey India, the first ‘Cairn India Rajasthan Women’s Hockey Cup 2014’ was held at Banasthali Vidyapeeth, Jaipur. Cairn India, co-sponsor of India’s national hockey team has associated with Banasthali Vidyapeeth for this tournament, which has participation from women hockey teams across Rajasthan.

‘Cairn India Rajasthan Women’s Hockey Cup 2014’, scheduled from April 8 to April 12, 2014, was played at Hockey Ground, Banasthali Campus, Tonk, Rajasthan. Women hockey teams from eight districts across Rajasthan- Banasthali, Jaipur, Ganganagar, Churu, Ajmer, Hanumangarh, Alwar and Sawai Madhopur - participated in this knockout tournament. Dr. (Mrs.) Shobha Singh, Vice President of Hockey India, was present at the opening ceremony of the tournament to encourage the girls who are potential Indian national team players.

Cairn India, the fastest growing energy company in the world according to Platts, is associated with Hockey with an aim to provide a positive impetus to the national sport. Through such sponsorships, the company is looking at promoting the game at the grass root levels.

Women hockey in India is a state of resurgence, with the national women team overshadowing their male counterparts during 2013. Last year the junior women's team bagged a historic bronze medal, their first ever World Cup medal, in the World Cup held at Germany.
