Through this initiative, Bank hopes to reach thousands of schools and lakhs of students located in rural areas.
“We believe that by enabling easy access to technology, Bank could reshape the destiny of lakhs of poor children hailing from backward areas”, Shri Thampy Kurian, General Manager & Head (Human Resources & CSR) said in a statement released from the Bank.
In India we see that there exists wide disparity in terms of the quality of education imparted at various schools. While students belonging to the middle and upper classes of society have access to latest technological/multimedia platforms that can help learn in a better way, students who come from the lower rungs of the society find it difficult to access quality education due to the lack of infrastructure in schools. Our mission is to identify such needy students and schools and help them in the best way possible to uplift their standards of education. The project would also act as a guiding light for many institutions to launch similar projects. If our initiative inspires others to bring technology to the downtrodden, it can help build a nation, where disparity is minimal, where everyone has the equal opportunity to access quality education to develop and prosper in life. As mentioned, this is an ongoing CSR initiative destined to grow in spread, size and scope in future.
Bank’s CSR commitment
Bank has been active in its commitment to reach the weaker and needy sections of the society. Our CSR initiatives cover different sectors like education, healthcare, environmental protection and financial literacy. Some of our programs include association with palliative care units, donation of ambulances, construction of medical wards in Govt. Hospitals, infrastructure development support for schools, contribution to disaster relief efforts. We also use CSR as a tool to build social commitment amongst our employees. Recently we opened a voluntary contribution fund to donate for Uttarakhand relief efforts and all the employees participated in this endeavor.
