Ministry Information and Broadcasting (I&B)has cancelled the multi-system operator (MSO) licence given to Chennai-based Kal Cables Pvt. Ltd owned by Kalanithi Maran.
The company is one of the 17 MSOs whose licence was cancelled by the I&B ministry. An MSO is an operator of multiple cable or direct-broadcast satellite TV systems.
According to I&B ministry, the licence to Kal Cables was cancelled as the home ministry denied security clearance to the company. The company was given licence to operate in Chennai in 2012 and a provisional licence to operate in other parts of Tamil Nadu in 2013.The company has approached the Madras High Court to quash the order.
