Centum Learning has today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Action for Employment (A4e). The purpose behind the MoU is to work towards the establishment of India’s first ever group of Assessor and Trainer Institutes (ATI) to train and certify assessors and trainers for the Skills Development sector.
Commenting on the association, Sanjeev Duggal, Centum Learning CEO & Executive Director, said, “This is a significant step forward in the capacity building space for Centum Learning. Our association with A4e will help bring global standards & best practices of skills development to the Indian market thus bridging the shortage of assessors and trainers required to meet the huge demand of skill training”.
With only 5% of Indians between the ages of 19-24 learning a formal trade, the necessity to improve vocational education and training to reap the demographic dividend of a young population is being recognised at the highest levels of government, the business community and civil society. The role of India’s rising young workforce is crucial in fuelling growth and India is exploring ways to train 500 million people by 2022, both in blue collar and white collar jobs, across urban and rural India which will warrant a huge pool of trained Skill instructors. The MoU signed by Centum Learning and A4e will go a long way in creating a pool of Skill instructors to address these very demands.
Centum Learning Limited and an A4e led consortium of well known skills training and development institutes together will train people across six industries – telecom, automobile, healthcare, retail, hospitality and building & construction. To feed the huge requirement of ‘skill instructors’, which will train and focus on ‘skill building for employability’, the partnership has proposed to create an institutional framework for developing ATIs for specific domains.
The relevant skills providers within the A4e led consortium will provide a range of services including training and accreditation, sharing curriculum, certification and supply of materials and equipment. Centum Learning with its extensive reach, scale and network of trainers is the ideal partner for such an initiative, that can be thought of as a building block of the future of the skilled workforce in India.
