#Bengali revolutionary leaders turned 'Extremist and terrorist' in Class 8 history textbooks in #WB
Shahid Khudiram Bose
A history chapter titled "revolutionary terrorism" in Class 8 history textbooks in West Bengal secondary Edication Board describes the activities of freedom fighters like Shahid Khudiram Bose, Jatindranath Mukherjee and Prafulla Chaki as "extremism and terrorism".
The issue kicked off a blazing debate with prominent historians in the state dubbing the move by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education a gross distortion to India's freedom struggle.
Prafulla Chaki was one of the revolutionaries of the freedom struggle who along with Khudiram Bose had thrown a bomb on a carriage in Muzzafarpur on April 30, 1908 in which a British woman and her daughter were killed.
Chaki was spotted at Mokama Ghat railway station and after a stand-off with the police; he killed himself with his own revolver there.
Khudiram Bose was arrested in Muzzafarpur and awarded death penalty by hanging. He was one of the youngest revolutionaries in the Indian independence movement. At the time of his hanging, he was 18 years, 7 months 11 days old.
