Logica on CDP leadership index for third consecutive year
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), representing 534 institutional investors with $64 trillion in assets under management, has commended Logica for its approach to climate change disclosure and carbon management performance.

FORE School of Management Extends Dates for PGDM Admission
FORE School of Management (FSM), the Delhi based Premium Management School, has extended the date for applications for the admissions in Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) for the upcoming 2011-13 session. The last date for submitting the applications is now Dec 6, primarily owing to a huge response from south India this year. Young minds unleash their potential at IRIS 2010
The Initiative for Research & Innovation in Science 2010 (IRIS 2010), one of India’s pinnacle science innovation platforms for students was inaugurated today at the Nehru Science Centre in Worli, Mumbai. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Kamal Kant Dwivedi, Adviser and Head, National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology and Mr. Rahul Bedi, Director Corporate Affairs, Intel.
87 finalists selected from over 1300 projects across the country will vie for the National honors at IRIS 2010 where the students will showcase their innovations in the field of physical & life sciences, mathematics, engineering and social sciences. The projects range from “Eco friendly paper from Banana Stem” to “Wireless Transmission of Electricity”. A whopping 23 innovative projects by 33 students from Karnataka alone have been shortlisted for IRIS 2010.
The four-day event that concludes on November 21, 2010 is aimed at promoting and nurturing science and scientific research amongst young Indian innovators by recognizing and rewarding outstanding projects. The winners at IRIS 2010 will represent India at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) which is the world's largest pre-college science fair, held annually in the USA. Intel ISEF brings together more than 1500 students from over 50 nations to compete for over US$ 4 million worth of prizes and scholarships.
“It is heartening to see the effort that has gone behind preparing each of these innovations. There is no doubt that science & technology can play a pivotal role to motivate students and empower them with opportunities to ensure sustained growth, both individually and consequently professionally and enhancement of their careers,” said Dr. Kamal Kant Dwivedi , Adviser and Head NCSTC, Department of Science & Technology.

The primary objective of IRIS is to promote and nurture science and scientific research amongst the young Indian innovators in secondary and higher secondary schools. The programme offers a platform for the participating students to interact with some of the best scientific minds in the country, who are involved as judges, and to hone their scientific talent. It also provides a public platform to recognize students who excel in science and scientific concepts.
87 finalists selected from over 1300 projects across the country will vie for the National honors at IRIS 2010 where the students will showcase their innovations in the field of physical & life sciences, mathematics, engineering and social sciences. The projects range from “Eco friendly paper from Banana Stem” to “Wireless Transmission of Electricity”. A whopping 23 innovative projects by 33 students from Karnataka alone have been shortlisted for IRIS 2010.
The four-day event that concludes on November 21, 2010 is aimed at promoting and nurturing science and scientific research amongst young Indian innovators by recognizing and rewarding outstanding projects. The winners at IRIS 2010 will represent India at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) which is the world's largest pre-college science fair, held annually in the USA. Intel ISEF brings together more than 1500 students from over 50 nations to compete for over US$ 4 million worth of prizes and scholarships.

‘Battle of Minds’ at the South Asia finals of Horlicks Wizkids 2010
Bangalore city warms up to welcome 60 students from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal for the finals of Horlicks WizKids 2010, South Asia's biggest interschool literary and cultural carnival. The city finals of Horlicks Wizkids 2010 were held in 22 cities of 4 countries and witnessed participation from more than 200,000 students. Four winners from the South Asia finals will be titled the Horlicks Wizteam South Asia 2010 and will get an opportunity to go for an international student exchange programme.
As part of the finals, students would have a wholesome learning experience over a period of five days from 20-25 Nov, 2010 at the School of Ancient Wisdom , Devanhalli, Bangalore . . They engage in project presentations, developing communication skills, reasoning skills, cultural knowledge, physical fitness, inter personal skills, psycho socio development, talent presentation and several other areas that would form a part of their evaluation. Participants will make a visit to ISCKON for an insight into Nation’s largest Mid Day Meal program on 23rd November. On the same day, a road show will be held by participants in the city to sensitize people about the growing concern on Carbon emissions and footprints.

Launched in 2004 in the areas of Human Capital Management, Finance, and Supplier Relationship Management & Procurement, the benchmarking program has expanded to include more than 30 business processes including Supply Chain Planning, Manufacturing, New Product Development and Introduction, Customer Contact Centers, and Governance, Risk, and Compliance. SAP offers more than 30 types of tailored benchmarking and best-practice surveys that can capture up to 700 KPIs and more than 1,000 different subset of best practices.
Participants of the benchmarking program receive many valuable benefits in addition to determining the impact of SAP on their business. They are able to internally explore the linkage between IT and business metrics, quantify the value of adopting best practices, and compare their use of SAP with that of their competitors and peers. Participants also have the ability to recognize company best practices and industry trends over time as each benchmarking initiative is ongoing and continuously updated with additional data points.

Microchip announces first stand-alone real-time clock/calendar (RTCC) family
Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller, analog and Flash-IP solutions, has announced its first stand-alone IC Real-Time Clock/Calendar (RTCC) family. All six MCP794XX devices are highly integrated at a low cost, including ample amounts of on-chip EEPROM and SRAM, as well as a user-lockable section of EEPROM available for a 64-bit reprogrammable unique ID that can be factory-programmed with a MAC address. The devices include digital trimming for time-of-day calibration, and a battery-switchover feature that supports backup power at very low voltage and current levels. By integrating all of these features within a single device, the MCP794XX family reduces component count, and lowers costs for a variety of applications.
Example applications include those in the smart-energy (e.g. thermostats, power meters and commercial refrigeration); home-appliance (e.g. stoves, dishwashers and microwave ovens); automotive (e.g. dashboard controls and car radios); and consumer-electronic markets (e.g. office equipment, irrigation controls and video systems), among others.
Many applications, such as cameras and notebook PCs, require a real-time clock with back-up power to maintain time and alarm settings when the main power is turned off. Other applications, such as commercial refrigeration, point-of-sale equipment and security systems, need a real-time clock with a power-fail monitor to capture and store the timeframes when main power fails. With their on-chip battery-switchover circuit and power-fail timestamp, the MCP794XX RTCC devices deliver this functionality, helping to address system health, safety, and security concerns in applications involving the storage of perishable goods, or monitoring access to secure rooms. The devices can be ordered with a pre-programmed MAC address, which eliminates a time-consuming step in the production flow, and the digital trimming feature can support software temperature compensation, which lowers costs in comparison to devices where temperature compensation takes place in hardware.
"Having incorporated RTCCs onto our microcontrollers for some time, we are now pleased to introduce our first stand-alone RTCCs," said David Wilkie, director of Microchip's Memory Products Division. "Many applications, such as refrigeration and security systems, require a clock and alarm that operate during power-down situations. The MCP794XX family gives customers a cost-effective and low pin count option for adding this functionality to their designs without significantly increasing design size or cost."

Microchip’s MCP79410 RTCC PICtail Plus Daughter Board (part # AC164140) is expected to be available in February 2011. Example applications include those in the smart-energy (e.g. thermostats, power meters and commercial refrigeration); home-appliance (e.g. stoves, dishwashers and microwave ovens); automotive (e.g. dashboard controls and car radios); and consumer-electronic markets (e.g. office equipment, irrigation controls and video systems), among others.
Many applications, such as cameras and notebook PCs, require a real-time clock with back-up power to maintain time and alarm settings when the main power is turned off. Other applications, such as commercial refrigeration, point-of-sale equipment and security systems, need a real-time clock with a power-fail monitor to capture and store the timeframes when main power fails. With their on-chip battery-switchover circuit and power-fail timestamp, the MCP794XX RTCC devices deliver this functionality, helping to address system health, safety, and security concerns in applications involving the storage of perishable goods, or monitoring access to secure rooms. The devices can be ordered with a pre-programmed MAC address, which eliminates a time-consuming step in the production flow, and the digital trimming feature can support software temperature compensation, which lowers costs in comparison to devices where temperature compensation takes place in hardware.

Limca Book of Records Quiz City Finals in Bangalore
Frank Anthony Public School today won the Bangalore City finals of Limca Book of Records Quiz 2010 held at Bishop Cotton Boys School , Bangalore . The young geniuses from the winning school in Bangalore would now compete with the winners from 80 other schools in the Semi finals. Not far behind, St. Joseph Boy’s School emerged as the runners up.
