Having spent some time working with Soma and the organization to identify the right leader, I am super confident that Amit and the leadership team will take MSIDC to greater heights. With a feeling of great pride, achievement and optimism, I bid farewell to this incredible company.”

eGestalt Voted Breakthrough Technology Vendor Finalist at Xchange 2010 Eve
Leading IT- GRC (governance, risk management and compliance) solutions provider eGestalt Technologies Inc. (www.eGestalt.com) was announced as the finalist in the Breakthrough Technology Vendor category at the prestigious XChange XCellence award ceremony held in Dallas, Texas. The award is a part of Everything Channel's XChange Americas which is the largest IT channel event held in America. eGestalt which is an innovative provider of IT for all enterprises shared the platform with pioneers like Microsoft and Zenith Infotech.
XChange Americas has over 1,000 attendees. This 3.5 day event brings together over 250 solution providers and leading industry vendors in diverse technology areas to build business relationships.
Having recently announced its Managed Compliance Provider channel strategy and program for the IT-GRC industry, eGestalt’s SecureGRC solution met the following five eligibility requirements to capture a large number of votes on the Breakthrough Technology Vendor ballot.
•New or enhanced product introduced to the channel in the past six months.
•Product creates new revenue streams and business opportunities.
•Product is a solution that channel partners would want to represent;
•Product contributes to solving real business technology needs; and lastly:
•Strong market opportunity for this product.
“To win recognition by the largest gathering of IT channel partners in the industry is a vote of confidence for our IT-GRC cloud solution,” said Jim Hare, VP of worldwide sales for eGestalt. “To meet any compliance requirement is a complex and expensive proposition especially for SMBs; that the channel recognizes our SaaS-based solution as being ideal for this market shows the pent-up demand for a simple IT-GRC managed compliance service.”
The XChange XCellence Awards winners are selected by top solution providers at each event and honor the vendors with the most exceptional products, programs and technologies.
In June 2010 eGestalt announced SecureGRC™, a patent-pending cloud-based SaaS solution that addresses all the enterprise needs around information security, compliance and risk management and provides automation and integration of policy controls to manage security and IT-GRC related issues.
Of interest to channel partners is that SecureGRC reduces the total cost of ownership by as much as 10x, making it ideal for cost-conscious small and mid-size organizations. Based on SecureGRC™, for the first time the channel can now deliver low-cost, high-value compliance services to their clients that has unparalleled economics that is unprecedented in the industry.
Sponsored by Everything Channel Events, the XChange XCellence Awards measure business and technology integrator perceptions of vendor products, services, and programs during an XChange event. XChange attendees evaluate and score each vendor's presentation, message and presence throughout the event, and awards are presented during the XChange XCellence Awards luncheon.

Andrew’s GeoLENs Proves Supple with SUPL
Wireless operators examining ways to deploy commercial location-based services (LBS) quickly should explore the new, standalone GeoLENs Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) Platform from Andrew Solutions, the CommScope, Inc. division that is a global leader in wireless communication systems and products.
“SUPL has become an important and attractive architecture for location-enabling wireless networks given its ease of implementation through bypassing the access network signaling dependencies,” said Martin Dawson, director, Mobile Location, Andrew . “Commercial location-based services can be provided without the cost and complication of implementing control plane location interfaces in the network.”
Andrew’s new GeoLENs® SUPL Platform is based on a standalone server compliant to the Open Mobile Alliance’s SUPL 1.0 standard, which utilizes the user plane for providing the location of a mobile device. The benefits of using SUPL for determining location include easy integration into operator networks, offering immediate high-accuracy location capabilities with minimal investment in network infrastructure. The GeoLENs SUPL Platform has already been deployed by multiple Tier 1 operators to support commercial LBS.
“Our development and deployment of a standalone SUPL Platform is in response to operator requests for such a solution,” said Dawson . “The versatility and adaptability of the GeoLENs location solution paired with Andrew ’s expertise in location technologies helped us respond quickly to this market need.”
Andrew was one of the first vendors to recognize the potential of SUPL and has been offering the capability in its GeoLENs portfolio for a number of years. This is the first time, however, that the company is offering a standalone SUPL configuration for wireless operators who need SUPL-only functionality. SUPL-based location allows operators to provide their subscribers location-based applications even when roaming as it operates independently of the capabilities of the visited access network.
While SUPL can offer a quicker, cost-effective way to deploy commercial LBS, control plane location capabilities are typically needed for meeting E-911 requirements and enabling security applications. Andrew believes its comprehensive GeoLENs Mobile Location Center supports the widest range of positioning capabilities available from a single vendor including network-based, control plane technologies.
SUPL determines location by using radio measurements made by the mobile device from cell towers, Wi-Fi, and GPS signals. SUPL calculates location based on knowledge of such radio network sources and topology, and it can also provide GPS assistance data to the end device. Andrew ’s GeoLENs SUPL Platform enables operators to locate mobile devices that are SUPL-enabled over a secure data connection using a variety of positioning technologies including Cell ID, Enhanced Cell-ID, and A-GPS.
Andrew operates a SUPL interoperability testing program with handset vendors to ensure interoperability between GeoLENs and mobile devices, lowering the cost of deployment for wireless operators. The enormous surge in smartphones and location-aware applications is significantly increasing activity in this program as operators explore quick, cost-efficient methods for supporting high-accuracy location throughout their networks. The upcoming SUPL 2.0 standard will enable operators to provide location in LTE networks, offer geo-fencing applications that allow operators to target users in specific geographic areas, and support other powerful features.
Andrew’s GeoLENs SUPL Platform is available now globally, with SUPL 2.0 LTE functionality planned for 2011.

The second most popular search keyword in Taiwan, Singapore and India for the first six months of 2010 was “gaming”, thanks to the growing “stay-at-home” economy.
Many employment opportunities were created during the economic recovery. “Job hunting” ranked No.7 on Yahoo!Kimo’s* (Taiwan) top 10 search keyword list while “part-time job” ranked No.1 in South Korea. In Hong Kong, the first two hottest search keywords were “after-school tutoring programs” and “English training programs”. This implies consumers wanted to invest themselves for better career opportunities during the market uptrend.
Coming out from a recessionary phase, India’s trend is inevitable with the growth in the popularity of Jobs, Travel, Mobile and Matrimony segments. Local online job portal Naukri.com is ranked no 1 followed by Monster.com and Monster Jobs in the most popular search keyword list. Job portals turned out to be a major destination for Indian users and the search varies from different mediums. Trending well with the growth of the Indian economy and increasing telecom and broadband penetration is “Nokia Mobile” and “broadband providers”, which also features among the top keywords in India.
Overall, most of the top 10 most popular keywords on Yahoo!Kimo* were investment and consumer related keywords like “financial and economic services”’, “investment”, “retail”, “home purchasing”, and “3C products” while those in South Korea were consumer related words, such as automobiles, shopping centers, clothing and accessories, and brands. In Hong Kong, keywords relating to “interior design”, “renovation”, “banking”, and “software” were the most popular. The ongoing economic recovery indicates that the strong consumption power will continue throughout Asia.
The Indian users definitely took great interest in travel and tourism with “Travel” related search keywords also becoming popular, thanks to resurgence in the hospitality sector. Interestingly, there has been a significant shift in consumer behavior pattern as people in India have also started relying on Internet services to build relationships. Keyword trends clearly indicate that the first half of 2010 witnessed a considerable rise in “matrimony” keyword search due to the imminent wedding season in India.
Based on the “Top 5 Fastest Growing Businesses in Search Marketing” in the first half of 2010, “travel and tourism”, “education”, and “medical cosmetology” businesses were the fastest growing businesses in the search marketing market due to the booming travel business, great emphasis on education and training programs, and pursuit of beauty and health in various Asian nations.
With numerous users and insightful observations on consumers, Yahoo!’s Search marketing service is a great marketing tool consisted of “scale” and “science”. Through the precise and direct marketing approach, advertisers may find their potential consumers with the most interest in various products as consumers always search whatever they need online.

Planning holiday in US, beware of cybercrooks
Cybercriminals are taking advantage of a relatively new U.S. requirement for travelers from these countries, who register online for travel authorization, and are spreading confusion about the process. Cybercrooks know that the only way to register for travel authorization is online, through Homeland Security’s Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), and they have been busy building phony websites designed to take your information and money.
When McAfee recently did a simple search for “ESTA,” “ESTA form,” or “ESTA online registration” a variety of dangerous websites showed up in search results. What’s more, incidents of these fake visa sites have escalated over the last two weeks following the government’s announcement that it is enacting a $14 fee for travel authorization, beginning September 8, 2010. Now scammers are asking for credit card numbers and financial information as well as personal details on these fake sites.
Due to this visitors to these fake sites face a series of dangers, including loss of money, identity theft, an infected computer, and even burglary since the scammers know what dates visitors will be away from home. Victims may also not be able to travel to the U.S. as planned since they did not get official travel authorization.
We would like to share more information with you on these threats and how consumers can protect themselves from becoming a victim. We would be glad to put you in touch with a McAfee expert on the same.

National Instruments and Texas Instruments Deliver Affordable, Portable Educational Device for Engineering Students
National Instruments today announced the release of the NI myDAQ portable instrumentation device for students in university engineering courses. NI myDAQ advances engineering education by making it possible for students to experience engineering outside of the lab, in their dorm room or anywhere they choose, at any time. The device is designed by National Instruments and features Texas Instruments analog circuits including data converters, amplifiers and interface and power management components. NI myDAQ hardware integrates with NI LabVIEW graphical development software to help reverse the trend of rising educational costs by giving students hands-on interaction with real analog circuits, sensor measurements and signal processing for about the price of an engineering textbook.
“Students need exposure to real circuits and hardware, but the problem for engineering professors is trying to meet the increasing cost of providing real electronics with continually tighter budgets,” said Dr. Tony Ambler, chairman of electrical and computer engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. “NI myDAQ is inexpensive enough for every student to have their own, plug it into their laptop at home, in the dorm or in the park, and experiment with the real electronics all around them, without using lab time or lab equipment.”
Compact enough to fit in a student’s pocket and powered by USB connection, NI myDAQ provides a solution for college engineering professors who want their students to experiment during homework and beyond, through a student-owned measurement, signal processing and control device. NI myDAQ bridges the gap between theory and real-world practice by providing students eight LabVIEW software-based instruments including a digital multimeter (DMM), oscilloscope, function generator, Bode analyzer, dynamic signal analyzer, arbitrary waveform generator, digital reader and digital writer. Students can use all these instruments to perform many laboratory-style experiments.
When combined with LabVIEW on a PC, NI myDAQ delivers a complete solution for hands-on learning of core concepts in engineering curricula that include analog circuits, sensor measurements and signals and systems courses. Multiple universities throughout the United States already are developing NI myDAQ curricula, and National Instruments is making these and other resources available to educational institutions and students at www.ni.com/mydaq.
NI myDAQ also integrates with the NI Multisim circuits education environment to provide a far-reaching educational platform. The device includes the eight software-based instruments, DMM cables, an audio cable and a reusable storage tray. LabVIEW Student Edition software and Multisim Student Edition software also are available with the device at a significant discount to students.

Zerofootprint Validates the Algorithms Behind Logica’s Emission Monitoring Solution for Drivers
Logica today announced that Zerofootprint, a leading organization in the global fight against climate change has certified the algorithms behind Logica’s emission monitoring solution – Logica EMO. The certification validates that Logica EMO effectively calculates greenhouse gas emissions and wasted fuel while driving. Through the implementation of Logica EMO, drivers will be able to compare their driving habits against a baseline to determine avoidable greenhouse gas emissions.
Conceptualised and developed through the innovation function at Bangalore, India, Logica EMO is a real-time monitoring system of vehicular emissions that uses a plug-in device that connects to the onboard computer of the vehicle and transmits the emission values from the vehicle wirelessly to a central office. Emission data from EMO can be used to offer differential fuel pricing to the vehicle driver. The solution means petrol or gas stations can offer prices tailored to every individual vehicle and the associated driving behaviour, thereby incentivising ‘greener’ driving behaviours. If the driving behaviour is green the fuel is priced lower and conversely if the driving behaviour is poor. View the video here.
"Zerofootprint is pleased to certify the accuracy of the algorithms used in Logica EMO to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and wasted fuel of a vehicle,” said Ron Dembo, CEO of Zerofootprint. “Logica EMO is a unique solution designed to help individuals gain a better understanding of the impact of driving behaviour on their environmental footprint, while providing incentive to improve.”
Advt. For custom built software development, visit www.neoewatchmedia.com
Logica EMO was also recognised by The Economist as one of ten game-changing solutions to combat climate change.
Commenting on the certification, GBS Bindra, Global Innovation Director, Logica said, “We are delighted with the certification from Zerofootprint. Logica EMO has the potential to make a lasting impact on the world’s efforts to combat climate change. The solution is one that can be embraced at the individual level to contribute positively to the environment. The robustness of the technology behind Logica EMO will ensure that the greenhouse gases emitted while driving are calculated accurately, enabling drivers to see how their driving directly impacts the environment.”

HCG adds HIFU, a minimally invasive procedure, to treat Prostrate Cancer
HealthCare Global Enterprises Limited (HCG), South Asia’s largest cancer care network which has been pioneering non-invasive treatment protocols in cancer treatment, today added High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) – an acoustic ablation technique - to its offering portfolio for treatment of prostrate cancer. The oncology major thus joins a select group of hospitals that offers new age treatment for prostrate cancer and becomes the first hospital in Karnataka to install this technology.
HIFU technology utilizes the power of ultrasound to destroy deep-seated tissue with pinpoint accuracy for treatment of prostate cancer. HIFU focuses sound waves in a targeted area which rapidly increases the temperature to 90-95°C in the focal zone causing tissue destruction. HIFU treatment typically is a 2-3 hour procedure performed one time on a patient basically on an out-patient basis under spinal anesthesia. Patients generally are up and walking within hours after HIFU and can return to a normal lifestyle within a couple of days.
Commenting on advantages that HIFU offers to patients, Dr Raghunath S K, Uro-Oncologist, HCG, said, “Unlike radiation, HIFU is non-ionizing which means that this acoustic ablation technique could also be used as a salvage technique if other prostate cancer treatments fail after radiation”.
According to Mukesh Rana, Country Manager, India HIFU, “The interest shown by physicians & patients and rapid adoption of HIFU technology in India is impressive. Also we are confident that the momentum will continue to grow as more physicians and patients explore Sonablate® HIFU as a treatment option. It would be our privilege to partner HCG and jointly fight prostate cancer as a team and in the process provide best treatment to patients suffering from prostate cancer”.

GE Awarded $6.3 Million DARPA Grant to Develop New Bio-inspired Sensors
Scientists at GE Global Research, GE’s technology development arm, in collaboration with Air Force Research Laboratory, State University at Albany, and University of Exeter, have received a four-year, $6.3 million award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop new bio-inspired nanostructured sensors that would enable faster, more selective detection of dangerous warfare agents and explosives.
Three years ago, GE scientists discovered that nanostructures from wing scales of butterflies exhibited acute chemical sensing properties. Since then, GE scientists have been developing a dynamic, new sensing platform that replicates these unique properties. Recognizing the potential of GE’s sensing technologies for improving homeland protection, DARPA is supporting further research.
Radislav Potyrailo, a principal scientist at GE Global Research and principal investigator, said, “GE’s bio-inspired sensing platform could dramatically increase sensitivity, speed and accuracy for detecting dangerous chemical threats. All of these factors are critical, not only from the standpoint of preventing exposure, but in monitoring an effective medical response if necessary to deal with such threats.”
Potyrailo noted that GE’s sensors can be made in very small sizes, with low production costs. This would allow large volumes of these sensors to be readily produced and deployed wherever needed. Unique sensing properties, combined with the size and production advantages offered by GE’s bio-inspired sensors, could enable an array of other important industrial and healthcare applications, including:
· Emissions monitoring at power plants
· Food and beverage safety monitoring
· Water purification testing for home, environmental and industrial applications
· Breath analysis for disease detection
· Wound healing assessment
--more--
Potyrailo said, “Now, more than ever, sensors are being used to collect data on gas concentrations and to deliver important information about air conditions in localized regions or over large distributed areas. This information can range from warning of impending chemical or health threats to more precisely measuring air quality at a power plant. The unique sensing properties of GE’s bio-inspired sensors provide an opportunity to improve the quality of this sensing data and the ability to collect this data at previously unavailable levels of detail”.
DARPA Program Manager Viktoria Greanya, Ph.D., said: “We have been greatly inspired by examples of naturally occurring optical structures whose properties arise from an intricate morphology. For example, the brilliant colors seen in butterfly wings, beetle carapaces, and peacock feathers are due in large part to their complex structure, not simply their color. DARPA’s goal in this program is to harness the best of nature’s own photonic structures and use advances in materials technology to create controllable photonic devices at visible and near-infrared wavelengths.”
For the DARPA project, GE has assembled a world-class team of collaborators who are recognized experts in their fields. They include: Dr. Helen Ghiradella, from State University at Albany, an expert on the biology of structural color; Dr. Peter Vukusic, from the University of Exeter, an expert on the physics of structural color; Dr. Rajesh Naik, from the Air Force Research Laboratory, with a strong background in bio-inspired functional materials and surface functionalization; and Dr. John Hartley, also from State University at Albany, specializing in advanced lithographic nanofabrication. These team members will complement GE’s strong multidisciplinary team of analytical chemists, material scientists, polymer chemists, optical engineers and nanofabrication engineers who are contributing to development of this new platform.

SAP Asia Pacific Japan Reports Robust Double-Digit Growth in Q2 2010
SAP Asia Pacific Japan (“APJ”) put in a strong report card for the second quarter and first half of 2010, with solid growth across all key markets and business units in the region.
Software and Software Related Services Revenues for Q2 2010 grew by 18 per cent (eight per cent including Japan) to €307 million. Total Revenues saw a corresponding 12 per cent growth (three per cent including Japan), to €366 million, reinforcing SAP APJ’s position as SAP’s global growth engine.
For the six months ended June 30, 2010, SAP APJ grew Software and Software Related Services Revenues by 16 per cent (eight per cent including Japan) and Total Revenues by 9 per cent (two per cent including Japan). All growth figures in this release are expressed in non-IFRS constant currency terms and are measured against the previous comparable period.
“We are pleased with our strong double-digit growth across the region, generated by increased momentum in all segments of the business. We experienced a significant lift in larger-sized deals, which together with strong growth in mid-sized deals (+50 per cent) and SME (+73 per cent), continued to drive improved margins. This solid performance demonstrates SAP APJ has the right strategy, supported by good execution and strong customer support,” said Steve Watts, President, SAP Asia Pacific Japan.
“Coupled with strategic moves, such as our acquisition of Sybase, Inc. and the introduction of our new version of SAP Business ByDesign in China and India, we are laying a strong foundation for the years ahead. By fully addressing customer needs, we will continue to reinforce our market leadership position across the region.”
Across the key geographic markets, Southeast Asia put in a stellar performance and China continued to be a very important strategic market. Other stand-out growth markets included Australia, Taiwan and Korea. Japan’s results were muted by the recovering economy, but the large enterprise sector performed well – as did Japan’s SME business (+42 per cent).
Globally, SAP also delivered a strong Q2 2010 with non-IFRS Software and Software Related Services Revenues growth of 16 per cent to €2.26 billion. With more than 10,600 deals won in Q2 alone, SAP exceeded its target of 100,000 customers worldwide. Support revenues also increased sequentially by more than nine per cent - testament to the strength of SAP’s Enterprise Support offering.
In Q2 2010, key APJ customer wins came from the Transportation, Utilities and Manufacturing sectors, with SAP APJ winning more than 85 per cent of all competitive deals. SAP’s market leadership was further reinforced by industry analyst reports, showing SAP leading the business intelligence (BI) tools market with a 19.5 per cent market share[1]. SAP also grew faster than the market in financial performance and strategy management (FPSM) applications, and now claims a 23.7 per cent market share[2].
Watts said, “At the heart of our strategy is complete dedication to our customers. We remain committed to Value Delivery and to helping every customer become a Best-Run Business. All of our customers want to be real-time, mobile, sustainable and Best-Run. Our strategy of On Premise, On Demand, On Device, with Orchestration, resonates very well with our customers, and continues to position SAP as the global enterprise software industry leader.”
SAP also announced the completion of its acquisition of Sybase, Inc., to be operated separately under the leadership of current CEO John Chen, remaining focused on its core business. Sybase will continue to execute plans and product strategies around its core database and information management business. Sybase’s expertise in the mobile business will be a key driver for the Sybase and SAP vision for the unwired enterprise. Micro Focus Unveils SilkPerformer CloudBurst for Load Testing from the Cloud
Micro Focus® (LSE.MCRO.L), the leading provider of enterprise application modernization, testing and management solutions, today announces the availability of SilkPerformer CloudBurst, a peak demand load testing capability based on Micro Focus Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) technology. CloudBurst extends Micro Focus’ industry-leading load and performance testing solution SilkPerformer out to the cloud. With CloudBurst, SilkPerformer enables testing organizations to easily manage large load tests that emulate hundreds of thousands of users from multiple global points of presence and to quickly diagnose and resolve discovered issues.
“Delivering industrial strength peak load testing capabilities, and high flexibility for both on premise and cloud based applications, we believe this will in turn drive smoother and higher quality software applications deployments from India. This unique testing tool comes in time to help both customer and partner organizations to take advantage of benefits of cloud technologies to drive higher ROI and business efficacies.” said Ashish Masand, Country General Manager, Micro Focus India.
As organizations develop web applications that will be used by many thousands of users worldwide, traditional load testing methods have fallen short. These methods require far too much hardware and are not able to scale to meet the demands of today’s web applications. SilkPerformer CloudBurst utilizes the cloud to meet these resource demands using a flexible, pay-as-you-go, consumption-based pricing model.
By extending SilkPerformer’s on-premise model with cloud load-generation technology, CloudBurst enables customers the flexibility to drive load from either on-premise or in the cloud or both at the same time. This model also has the advantage of being able to monitor the underlying systems and provide performance diagnostics with one integrated product.
In order to handle the complexity of today’s web 2.0 applications, Micro Focus SilkPerformer CloudBurst also delivers a new generation of load-generation technology called Browser Driven Load Testing, which cuts scripting and script maintenance time in half and more accurately emulates end user loads on Web 2.0 applications.
“With CloudBurst, SilkPerformer has become a hybrid on-premise and on-the-cloud product, giving our customers the advantage of being able to load test all of their applications whether they are Internet facing or internal. They can mix-and-match permanent or consumption-based licensing models to meet their needs and have an integrated solution for driving loads and diagnosing performance problems,” said Rich Novak, president and general manager of the Micro Focus Application Management and Quality Division.
“SilkPerformer CloudBurst allows us to help customers drive Continuous Quality Assurance methods in terms of performance testing. The ability to test from anywhere to anywhere and to easily and quickly harness the resources needed to drive loads allows performance testing to be accomplished earlier in the life cycles and leveraged more often. That is what Micro Focus’ Continuous Quality Assurance is all about, eliminating defects earlier in the development lifecycle at less cost.”
Micro Focus SilkPerformer CloudBurst is available immediately. Micro Focus is pleased to provide resources to help support companies’ cloud-based testing initiatives. For more information, visit www.microfocus.com/cloudburst.
